Prometheus explores a sound-driven method of stimulating a quartz crystal singing bowl. The acoustic source sends airborne energy towards the bowl, allowing its material and geometry to shape the resulting sound field.
Airborne acoustic excitation
The speaker does not need to strike, rub or mechanically actuate the bowl. The design uses sound waves travelling through the air to interact with the bowl’s resonant behaviour.
Source, position and programme
Driver characteristics, placement, sound material, frequency content and level all influence the interaction. Development is focused on identifying effective, repeatable configurations.
From prototype to product
Prometheus is patent pending and remains in development. Acoustic testing, bowl compatibility, electronics, controls and production design will continue to evolve before final specifications are announced.
